BIOGRAPHY | Maria Shriver is a trailblazer, award-winning journalist and producer, best-selling author, activist, and mother of four. As California's First Lady, Maria has used her voice and platform to advocate on behalf of women, the working poor, and the intellectually and developmentally disabled. Through her work with Best Buddies International and the Special Olympics, she strives to reshape perceptions of people with special needs. "My mother believed in the potential and possibilities for people with disabilities - that they could compete, participate, feel empowered and be included," she says. Since 2003, Maria has been the vision behind The Women's Conference, the nation's premier forum for women. Under her leadership, the mission of the conference organization has been to empower, educate and inspire women from all walks of life to be Architects of Change in their lives, in the communities and around the world. "The Women's Conference community works together 24/7 on the front-lines of humanity to finance dreams and invest in entrepreneurs, life people out of poverty, help ends the cycle of domestic violence, send young women to college, build community centers, playgrounds and gardens, honor remarkable women who are changing the world, and inspire people by the remarkable history of California."
