CHARITY | Over the Wall
BIOGRAPHY | Throughout the past 20 years, Shannon de Boissard has put her Harvard MBA to good use in building a rich and varied career in finance, media & entertainment and fashion in New York, Paris and London. She is also a founding partner of Percy & Reed 'hair', the chic and iconic British haircare brand taking the globe by storm. Yet despite being an accomplished businesswoman, Shannon possesses an inimitable drive to help seriously ill children and their families.
When Shannon had her own two children, the inequities of life became all the more poignant to her as she encountered more and more children who had not been afforded the same luxury of good health that had been bestowed upon hers. In recent years, Shannon has channeled much of her energy to the benefit of Over The Wall, a British charitable organization that provides for the physical and emotional needs of young people, suffering with serious and life limiting illness, and their families.
Over The Wall is a member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps founded by the late actor and philanthropist, Paul Newman, to offer free activity camps specifically designed and developed to foster coping skills, resilience, self-esteem and confidence, while giving children glorious experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun and empowering, in a physically safe medically sound environment. Every £1,500 raised allows a child from a vast variety of illness groups, including Cancer, HIV, Sickle Cell, Crohn’s Disease and Heart Disease, to name a few, to take advantage of all that Over The Wall has to offer.
"Many of the children Over The Wall welcomes have never known the simple pleasures of childhood,” says Shannon. "They endure painful, severely compromised and often short lives. Over The Wall brings happiness and pleasure to these deserving children, and emotionally supports the parents and siblings who so selflessly sacrifice to provide for the severely ill child in their lives."
